Mesothelioma Cure – Does it Exist?

Mesothelioma cure is done in a number of types of treatment and physicians more often recommend some of them over others. Among most used therapies, chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries are prominent. In addition, new therapies such as immunotherapy, gene therapy and photodynamic therapy are also widely recommended.

Although mesothelioma cure can separately give relief to some extent, physicians combine them according to the patients’ conditions. Sometimes, doctors recommend surgeries plus chemotherapy and radiotherapy to some patients as they are in critical positions indicating removal of a part of the cancer by surgeries is imperative to their survival.

In addition to the above treatments, there are more mesothelioma cures as well. Many patients state that they get relief when undergoing with therapies such as TENS therapy, massages and acupuncture. Yoga poses, meditation and aromatherapies are some more avenues patients normally rely on.

Although no mesothelioma cure as such is yet there to cure the disease, patients believe in treatments. They undergo many tests to diagnose the disease and even participate with researchers to test on them so as to produce reliable cures. Many doctors combine more than one method. The multimodal therapies have been proved more effective and their use have increased the survival desire in patients.

Among mesothelioma cures surgeries are three types. They are called palliative surgeries, curative surgeries and diagnostic surgeries. Nevertheless, on a patient more than one types of surgery may be performed. Most commonly, thorcentesis is the surgery that is recommended to diagnose mesothelioma cancers while palliative surgery is performed to relieve mesothelioma symptoms. Curative surgery is aimed at removing the cancer to the utmost level. To get the full result from this surgery, early diagnosis of the diseases is imperative though it is very difficult to diagnose mesothelioma cancers.

Chemotherapy is a more prominent mesothelioma cure. Cisplatin and Alimta are two effective drugs used in this method and they destruct cancer cells with their process of division. However, these type of drugs also affects healthy cells and cause side effects. Heated chemotherapy – a new type of the treatment – is now used for patients who suffer with peritoneal mesotheliomas.

Radiation is used to destruct malignant cells. It takes a prominent place in mesothelioma cure and takes place with surgery, but patients only get temporary relief from it.

Usually the mesothelioma cure is combined with photodynamic therapy as well. This treatment is widely used to cure lung cancers, pleural mesothelioma and skin cancers. During this therapy, rays of a light are used to destruct malignant cells and before two or three days to the procedure, a solution is injected to the patients converting these cells making them more vulnerable to the light.

Among mesothelioma cures gene therapy and immunotherapy also plays major roles. Under gene therapy, a genetic substance is used to kill cancer cells. One method of gene therapy is called ‘suicide gene therapy’ as it compels malignant cells to give out excretions that kill their own. On the other hand, the patients who are undergoing immunotherapy have powered their own immunities to kill malignant cells.
